Embarking on a deep sea fishing trip means spending several hours on the boat. Turning back to pick something up may be tricky, so packing your deep sea fishing essentials is crucial. Here is our guide on what to bring on a deep sea fishing trip:
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is an absolute must. You should aim to bring a sunscreen with SPF50+ to help avoid burning your skin and block out any Ultraviolet B sun rays.
sunglasses
Sunglasses will protect your eyes from looking at the reflection of the sun on the water. If your sunglasses are polarized then even better.
Offshore Fishing Clothing
Every angler should own the following to be prepared for their deep sea fishing excursions:
- Waterproof and stain-resistant clothing – You can expect saltwater, fish blood and slime to end up on you, so basically wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Dri-fit long sleeve moisture wicking shirt – A long sleeve dri-fit top will give you an additional layer of protection from the sun, and sometimes they block against SPF and are water resistant. Dri-fit long sleeve shirts are also great for colder weather conditions for extra layering.
- Anti-slip rubber shoes – Aim for a lightweight design which is breathable, so not too tight nor too loose.
- Hat or neck gaiter – you will very likely get yourself a sunburn around your head and neck if you don’t wear one of these. If a hat or neck gaiter isn’t for you, a hooded version of your long sleeve top can work too.
- Raincoats – if you know the waters will be choppy or it is drizzling outside
Dry bag
The weather or conditions can be a bit more unpredictable when venturing out into offshore waters. It isn’t a bad idea to bring a dry bag to store your valuables, and perhaps an extra change in clothes in case your ones get mucky.
MEDICATION
Motion sickness tablets are the number one medication to bring on board your offshore fishing trip. Even if you don’t think motion sickness affects you, you may change your mind after a deep sea fishing trip. A popular brand for motion sickness medication is Dramamine.
Cooler with Beers and Snacks
Be prepared to feed the hunger if you are spending the whole day out on the water. A cooler will help to store you drinks and snacks cold and fresher for longer.
