Sportfishing in Panama

World-Class Fishing in the Gulf of Chiriquí

Panama Nautical Club is a sportfishing lodge located on Isla Boca Brava, Gulf of Chiriqui, on the Pacific coast of Panama. The lodge provides access to some of the Pacific’s most renowned fishing grounds, including Hannibal Bank and Montuosa Island. Depending on the season and conditions, anglers can target black and blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, roosterfish, cubera snapper and wahoo.

Whether you’re a first-time angler or an experienced sportfishing professional, every trip is tailored around your goals, target species and preferred style of fishing.

The Gulf of Chiriqui: a world-class fishery

The Gulf of Chiriquí is one of Panama’s premier Pacific sportfishing regions, with diverse fishing environments ranging from productive inshore waters to remote offshore banks and islands. The region’s islands, reefs, deep-water drop-offs and seamounts combined with the nutrient-rich waters of the Humboldt Current, create an extraordinary concentration of baitfish which in turn attract an incredible diversity of gamefish. These conditions make the Gulf of Chiriquí an exceptionally productive big-game fishery, where anglers can encounter multiple trophy species in a single day.

From Isla Boca Brava, Panama Nautical Club offers fast access to productive inshore waters only 10 minutes away, and offshore grounds only 40 minutes away. Panama Nautical Club regularly fishes Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa, two of the Gulf of Chiriquí’s most renowned offshore sportfishing destinations.

Offshore Sportfishing

Offshore trips target powerful pelagic species including marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo.

Inshore Sportfishing

Closer to the islands and coastline, anglers can pursue roosterfish, cubera snapper, grouper, trevally and other inshore game fish.

Yellowfin Tuna Season

Yellowfin tuna can provide exceptional action in the Gulf of Chiriquí, with particularly strong seasonal activity reported around Hannibal Bank and Montuosa. Yellowfin tuna can be caught year-round in Panama, with the peak season for large cow sized tuna  between March and July.

Billfish Season

Marlin and sailfish can be targeted offshore throughout the year, with peak marlin fishing between December and February.
